ballroom confessional

Life yanks me by the hand and pulls me into a slow dance— slow fumble—

Tango might be a better word– Twisted tango

Through dark and dismal nights.

I’m turned about by its rabid violin,

Skittering across slippery tiles

Bumping into bustles and busts before

Hiding away like a fool in the curtains. Unfit. Unwell.

Afraid to go forward.

But you; you who challenges the sun

With a flash of the faintest smile

Arrives

And I have become a new kind of fool.

The curtains are swept to the side:

An inspiration

Somehow a spotlight–

Beautiful, beguiling, benevolent

And most importantly, brilliant.

Waiting in the shadows this whole time

To take the center stage.

I reach out for your hand

I want this dance, I want you,

You who makes chandeliers shudder with the shimmer in your eyes,

You who dreams big, who dreams wild and wise

Who spins and the clouds clear away from the skies.

You who leads life, like I wish I could.

I wish I could just step into your spotlight

And know. Know everything because

When I’m with you, I’m fool enough to believe I can do anything.

I watch you from a distance, I watch you go.

Tossed about in my tango, twisting towards your face

For just a glimpse of affection, intimacy

Reaching out every time I’m caught in a dip

Determined that one day, one way I will lead life too

You’ll see, I will lead life like you do.

And with luck my love will lead my life.

This I trust, for it led me right to you.
