transformation
julian sharma
that summer we slathered sunscreen
over sunburnt shoulders / that summer
& crappy motel mattresses molding
the shapes of our bodies together / sweat
stained t-shirts with a constant hunger
for something more / a constant hunger
shifting through my skin / as we laid
pressed to the cold tile of the bathroom
air conditioning gasping through the vents. /
becoming something you’re not is easy /
when the world shrivels to a glance across
sticky bartops, to wind blowing through hair
& to sunlight, beating down, beating you /
into a form you won’t recognize when winter
comes. / that summer i became someone else /
insatiable & unrecognizable / would you have
taken me any other way?
