i want to go where the water lilies grow
down by the coast:
beaver dams and muddy shores:
the blooming of the mind is
evergreen: sensation overwrought
and overblown:
the breeze is just a breeze:
winter wind curls around my body
but cannot see me: phantoms out
in all directions: the leaves
never crunching under our feet:
this air has haunted me
back indoors and
time — oh, time —
makes icy pavement
out of everything:
there was no fire
in the southern sky tonight,
only silence:
